Recently, my son visited an art gallery where he found an artwork that struck him. The artwork’s message was how, due to various reasons, people are unable to aim for higher goals and are stuck with mediocrity and bare minimums. As someone who knows exactly how that feels, I wanted to find out what makes people feel that way. Despite what others may say, improving ourselves and our situation is never impossible with the right knowledge and decisions.

One reason that came to me is that, perhaps people are only able to produce mediocre results in the expertise one is currently in. In my line of work, Heaven Luck, which deals with what we have an affinity to and more, is one of the Three Factors of Human Success. It is possible that, because of one’s Heaven Luck, their potential can only bring about mediocre results in specific fields while amazing results in others. Finding the right expertise where one can excel can be a difficult thing, but with the right support and guidance, it will even be an enjoyable experience.

Another factor of Human success that has a significant impact is one’s Earth Luck, which is one’s environment. The environment can be unsupportive of a person, which could lead to the bare minimum results one produces. It is a common story where one cannot shine fully due to an environment that restricts and cages. In a favorable environment, not only can one produce favorable results, but also achieve greater heights because of the strength the environment gives.

Following Earth Luck, the last important factor is Man Luck, one’s hard work. Unlike what many may think, Man Luck isn’t just the hard work one does, but also how one equips oneself before working such as getting knowledge. Perhaps why one is unable to create better results simply because one is brute forcing a method or a strategy over and over. Finding the right tactic to tackle a problem is key to finding the most efficient way to make wonderful outcomes.

Finding the extent of our ability can be a demotivating thing. The thought of “Is this all I am able to do?” is scary because it sounds like all one can conjure up is mediocrity. However, one should not equate what one can do now with our limit. Not being as great as others doesn’t mean one can never be great. Although one can be not as great as another, with the right support and knowledge, one is able to become greater than before.
